About

A fifth generation native Texan, Sylvia Hornback splits her time between her Texas ranch and
the Sangre de Christo Mountains of New Mexico. She has spent much of her career as
an entrepreneur and educator. Storytelling and writing started at a young age while living with
her grandmother as a child. Family stories varied ranging from railroad station masters, WWII bomber pilots, flying the hump to China to tenant farming in West Texas. Stories were always present during a career that progressed from educational research and technical writing for interactive, online training to high tech business owner. Her time is spent traveling and writing along with exploring mountain trails and jeeping the high country with her husband Dick and Australian Sheppard, Pepper.
Sylvia’s early career began in the classroom teaching sixth graders. She moved from the classroom to administration where she became an elementary school principal. During her time as a principal, she organized a doctoral cohort of administrators. She earned her doctorate at Texas A&M, College Station in administration and went on to be an Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum. After her career in education, Sylvia joined her husband in a software business that provided training for the oil and gas industry where she served as President and CEO.
Presently, Sylvia is a full time author who is passionate about writing and is working on her third book. Her work is authentic due to her in depth research using qualitative methodology. She uses primary sources and interviews to capture reality in her writing. She loves to write about ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary feats, and faith plays a large part in the development of her protagonists. She includes questions and topics for discussion in her latest book Jeanne. She is full of ideas and is excited to tell her stories.
